Meals Ministry: Feed Trauma-Impacted Kids This Summer

We’d love for your family, church, business, or group to join us in helping feed children at Breakaway Summer Camp. This year marks our 20th year of providing Christ-centered summer camps for children across East Tennessee and North Georgia who have experienced significant hardship. Many of our campers have walked through childhood trauma, family incarceration, domestic abuse, parental addiction, and other difficult circumstances.

Meals Are Not Just Food, They Are Ministry

As the Spanish proverb says, “A full stomach makes for a happy heart.” And we’ve found that when children’s tummies are full, their hearts are often more open to receive the encouragement, love, and spiritual hope shared throughout the camp experience. Meals are not just food—they are ministry. They are a powerful way to show kids they are seen, valued, and cared for.

One meaningful way you can partner with us is by adopting a meal during camp week—either lunch or dinner. This involves providing, preparing, and delivering a meal for approximately 70 campers and staff. You’re welcome to take one meal slot or multiple slots if you’d like!

Camp is held at Johnston Woods Retreat Center, where we do have access to kitchen facilities. Our meals coordinator will gladly walk you through all the logistics to make it simple and manageable. You may also choose to donate food and have our kitchen team prepare it.

Even better, after each meal there are recreational and team-building activities—so if your group would like to stay and connect with campers, you’re invited to jump in and serve alongside us. It’s a beautiful opportunity to build relationships and be part of something life-giving.

We would be honored to partner with you in loving and serving these incredible kids. If you’d like more information or want to reserve a meal slot, please reach out anytime.
