Barahona is a coastal province in the southwestern region of the Dominican Republic, known for its breathtaking natural beauty. Surrounded by lush mountains, rivers, and the Caribbean Sea, the area is often called the “Pearl of the South.” It features pristine beaches, vibrant fishing villages, and unique natural wonders like Lake Enriquillo—the largest lake in the Caribbean. Despite its scenic landscape, Barahona is also one of the less-developed regions of the country, where many families rely on agriculture, fishing, and small-scale trade for their livelihood.
Life in Barahona reflects a mix of rich Dominican culture and economic challenges. While the people are warm, hospitable, and family-oriented, the community faces struggles with poverty, limited educational opportunities, and access to resources. These realities make Barahona a place where outreach and service can have a meaningful impact, whether through youth programs, education, healthcare, or church partnerships. It’s a region full of both great need and incredible potential, where faith, community, and resilience shine brightly.
