Kidz Camps
Creating life-changing experiences! *Breakaway Outreach has been offered a matching grant for our 2013 Summer of Hope outreach initiatives. That means any scholarship you provide for a prisoners' child to attend summer camp now becomes two scholarships! Every child should have the opportunity to go to camp… it’s an unforgettable adventure that has indelible impact for years to come! We are committed to facilitating Gospel-centered adventure camps for prisoners’ kids, at-risk youth, and under-served children. In 2007, we held our first camp for at-risk children, taking a small group of 13 prisoners’ kids to the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina. Since that inception, hundreds of at-risk children and under-served kids have experienced a life-changing adventure through a multiplicity of residential camps as well as day camps in urban communities and low-income neighborhoods.
Prisoners’ Children There are nearly two million children of prisoners in the U.S. today. According to national statistics, close to 60% of these children are under the age of ten. In addition, children of prisoners are six times more likely to commit crimes than other children, a U.S. Senate report indicates. For most prisoners' children, summer camp is only a dream. With mom or dad in prison, these kids are at a higher risk for drug abuse, violence, delinquency, and experiencing prison time as well. But it doesn't have to end up that way – together, we can turn the tide of delinquency and make a difference! Scholarships: How You Can Help! We need partners who are willing to help with full or partial scholarships to make this dream a reality. The cost to send one child to camp for a full week is $160. You can help shape a "dream" and impact a life permanently with a gift of any amount.
