Summer Camp for Prisoners' Children

summer camp for prisoner's children

Camp Elevate is Breakaway's summer adventure camp for at-risk youth between the ages of 8 to 12. The vision of our summer adventure camp is to offer a whole week of overnight camping and spiritual retreat for children of prisoners as well as other at-risk youth. Utilizing adventures in rafting, hiking, and other wilderness elements, the camp serves to increase children's resiliency characteristics, team-building aptitude, social skills, and spiritual development.

Hosted in the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina, this camp transcends hot dogs and campfires - Elevate provides a chance for kids to hear the life-changing message that Jesus loves them through relevant worship experiences. More than just a summer session, this camp experience bridges into children's lives by year-round mentoring relationships initiated by the camp counselors.

There are over 1.5 million children of prisoners in the U.S. today. According to national statistics, 59 percent of these children are under the age of ten. In addition, children of prisoners are six times more likely to commit crimes than other children a U.S. Senate report indicates.

For most prisoners' children, summer camp is only a dream. With mom or dad in prison, these kids are at a higher risk for drug abuse, violence, delinquency, and experiencing prison time as well. But it doesn't have to end up that way – together, we can make a difference!

We need partners who are willing to help with full or partial scholarships to make this dream a reality.

The average cost to send one child to camp for a full week is $250. You can help shape a "dream" this summer with a gift of any amount. Make a secure online donation by clicking the "donate" button at the top of the page or mail your tax-deductible gift to:
